Reviews, Evaluation and Impact Assessment

Reviews, evaluation and impact assessment are important tools to inform the future, while documenting the past. EMPOWERHOUSE has the tools and the experience needed to match your specific documentation needs, be it through systematic interviews, facilitation of consultative workshops, surveys, tracer studies or audience feed-back in a variety of ways. Impact assessment furthermore highlight the change generated by the work in, of and around the media. It can be particularly effective in and around community media, where matching of impact documented with the change desired, can provide important information on to ways forward.

EMPOWERHOUSE works with Reviews, Evaluation and Impact Assessment in the following ways:

  • EMPOWERHOUSE tailors the tools needed to answer the needs and questions you have, and implements the assessment process in partnership with the organisation in question, ensuring that capacity is built in the team to continue this work on an ongoing basis,
  • EMPOWERHOUSE always embeds a review, an evaluation or an impact assessment in the reality and context in which it is found, avoiding to consider a development intervention in its own narrow framework, but always as an integrated part of the surrounding political, economic, cultural reality,
  • EMPOWERHOUSE where possible engages those being reviewed or evaluated in the review/ evaluation exercise, while ensuring to also have outside views of the intervention through engaging relevant ‘free thinkers’ and stakeholders in the process,
  • Aware of and alert towards the weight often carried by an evaluation or review by the customer, EMPOWERHOUSE carefully vets all information gathered through triangulation, feed-back meetings with reviewed entity and customer, while maintaining the required quality, rigour and integrity as an evaluator and reviewer,
  • In the EMPOWERHOUSE work with impact assessment in community radio stations, the final presentation of findings to the station itself: its management and community (volunteer) broadcasters, is usually connected to a discussion how the community can continue this work in simple, yet effective and reliable ways. This usually includes a discussion of the role of impact assessment for sustainability including for credibility (and thus ownership) by the community and potential to mobilise (funding) partners (and thus financial support).
